The Process of Financial Planning: Developing a Financial Plan and The Case Approach to Financial Planning: Writing a Financial Plan are the first books designed and dedicated to introducing students to the complicated, integrated, and “real world” side of financial planning, specifically, designing a financial plan for a client.
The Case Approach to Financial Planning: Writing a Financial Plan
Key Objectives
· Help fill the need for quality case studies for use in the financial planning curriculum.
· Meet the course requirements for the Capstone Financial Planning Course/Development of a Financial Plan Course.
Four types and levels of cases:
-
· Comprehensive (run of book) Bedo Family Case, which can be used as the foundation for writing a comprehensive financial plan. Questions related specifically to the Bedo case are included at the end of chapters 1 and 3-14. The Bedo case narrative has been developed to:
-
o be as comprehensive and integrated as possible, meaning showing how developing client alternatives from one section of the case will influence other sections of the plan or case.
-
o support both simple and complex strategies and recommendations.
-
· Chapter-Based Cases, which illustrate how certain financial planning strategies can be developed and shaped into tools that can be used to help clients meet specific goals and objectives.
-
· Quantitative/Analytical Mini-Case Problems, which offer practice in calculation and critical thinking that test the student’s ability to evaluate and assess a client’s current financial situation and then choose between and recommend appropriate strategies.
-
· Mini-Cases: Chapter 15 includes ten multiple-choice question-and-answer cases to help develop a student’s ability to quickly evaluate a client’s current financial situation, arrive at correct dollar outputs from calculations, and then choose between and among appropriate financial planning strategies. An ethics case is also presented designed to test knowledge of securities rules and financial planning practice standards.
